a few thoughts. . .

"The Land of the Free and The Home of the Brave" came from my heart and spilled from my lips as I sang the Star Spangled Banner prior to a recent high school football game. I was not alone. Since 9/11/01 most Americans have responded with a renewed determination to fight and to remain free. The world has witnessed the heroics and bravery of thousands of Americans.
The notable exception has been the US House of Representatives. Not since the War of 1812 has that chamber shut down for an emergency. After the discovery of Anthrax in a senator's office— they cut and run! House Leaders Dennis Hastert and Richard Gephardt put a positive spin on their fearful retreat by intoning, "we are protecting our staffs and interns". What a bunch of Bull S---. The six confirmed cases and one death from Anthrax amounted to one-half of the number of interns who have died or disappeared while serving their bosses, Representative Gary Condit and Senator Ted Kennedy.
While the US House of Representatives was running for cover, US postal workers delivered the mail, Americans continued to fly, although California Governor Gray Davis wouldn't (he leased a private jet), and the Pentagon remained open even while it was still on fire. In total darkness, hundreds of America's Special Forces parachuted into Afghanistan, risking their young lives for America. The US Representatives, who we elected, need a double dose of a Viagra type drug that will stiffen their spines instead of their other body parts.
It's easy to live up to ideals and read teleprompters about "strength and resolve"; And when on camera, wax eloquently about welfare, diversity, education, saving the children, and putting Social Security in a "lock box", when it doesn't affect their posh life styles. Especially when their constituents send them taxes, campaign money, and vote for them.
President Bush, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, and others leaders keep repeating that this gruesome, dirty, and costly war will be long. It will result in innocent civilians being bombed in Afghanistan. Many of America's sons and daughters will be coming home in body bags. More terrorist attacks and deaths will occur on America's own soil. "Freedom isn't Free".
My son, Fletcher, says, if you want it done right, you've got to do it yourself". I don't agree with him, but in this case, he's right as rain. With the possible exception of Britain, our other so called allies are saying, "we'll hold your coat, now you go get 'em. This war will be fought and WON by Americans. They'll come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and ZIP codes. They have done it before and they'll do it this time.  The New York Times blames Secretary of HEW Thompson and Attorney General Ashcroft for the Anthrax out break. Duh... terrorists mailed those letters, terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center, terrorists smashed the Pentagon, and terrorists killed the thousands of innocent people.
While the liberal media is trying its best to "Vietnamese" their news coverage, we common folk are having none of it. Movie star Richard Gere and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton nearly got booed off the stage by New York City's firemen and policemen.
There sure wasn't any booing at Nichols Farms NC open house/bull sale. Lillian, Ross, and I flew round trip in nearly full planes. Over 60% of the bulls sold by private treaty the first day. Pro Farmer advises: "Cattle prices will post new highs. Cattle will shake off the fall price stumble and roar back to new highs". The stock market did not crash. It has been a great harvest season. It's a great time to be in the beef business. Try and make it to the Sue Ann Fletcher Nichols/Nichols Farms Female Sale, November 25. We've got a catalog with your name on it, just tell us where to "mail it". I hope to see you there.

Old Glory flies again at Nichols Farms. The '99 tornado claimed the flag pole (not the flag) as a casualty. The flag is old, a little tattered and faded, but it represents a shining symbol for freedom loving Americans.
