Our
breeding philosophy is simple: start with a foundation of proven Simmental females,
sired by proven Simmental and Angus AI sires. Then, breed them to the most exciting &
genetically superior bulls available using EPDs, individual performance and
visual evaluation as selection criteria with the end goal of producing real
world cattle that will work in the commercial cattleman's environment. While
productivity is our main goal, we also try to add as much “pretty” as
possible for the show ring. Through the use of great Simmenta and
Angus cows, A.I., and
embryo transplant, we hope to do our part in the advancement of Simmental
genetics.
When we became a Simmental breeder, our goal was to buy the best so we could
produce the best. The best cow I have ever seen is now the focal point of
our breeding program, Lucas Sophisticated Lady.
A Perfector daughter out
the immortal Miss Prickly Pear 615 cow, she epitomizes what the Simmental
breed represents, production and is a leading Donor in the Lucas Cattle
program in MO. She has worked with every bull she has been
paired with. These calves not only excel in all categories, but they look
extremely good doing it. Simmental sires used include Lucky Break, YC Spade, and RC
Gridmaster, the exciting new AI sire from the 2005 River Creek Farms Sale.
(See pictures of these calves on our Prospects & Projects page.)
